Co-Curricular Activities

We believe in nurturing well-rounded individuals, which is why we offer a wide range of co-curricular activities that encourage our students to think differently and express themselves creatively. These activities help them gain a deeper understanding of the world and develop a stronger sense of self.Engaging in these activities brings great joy to our students and has numerous benefits for their well-being. By going beyond classroom learning, they cultivate a sense of curiosity and a thirst for knowledge. Our campus is brimming with creativity as students explore various artistic pursuits such as visual arts, music, brass band, weaving, dance, theater, reading, and creative writing. Student-led activities shape leadership skills, build confidence and discipline.

Theatre: Unleash your Creativity

Our Theatre program is designed to develop soft skills and ignite creativity in our students. Through engaging performances and hands-on experiences, they learn the art of expression, gain confidence, and develop their communication skills.

Theatre is an extracurricular subject at Samasaara Academy, with the aim of developing Soft Skills and Creativity, fostering Teamwork, building Character on stage, and exploring Process Drama.

In grades 1, 2, and 3 the intention is to get the fun bug to bite them. In grades 4 and 5 the focus is on ‘imagination’- to develop their ‘own stories’ for eventual enactment. Grades 6 and 7 realize how versatile their voices are and learn to use their voices effectively. They delve into Reader’s Theatre and Radio Plays.

In Grade 8 the focus is on ‘Body and Ensemble’, so Mimes, Skits and Process Drama occupy their time. Grade 9 combines all the previous learning and they enact a One-Act play on stage that is presented for certification by The Trinity School of Music & Theatre. In grade 10 Communication Skills are further sharpened and Drama-skills are used to denote real-life situations.

Art & Craft: Unleash your Inner Artist

In our Art & Craft club, students explore their artistic abilities through various mediums. They learn techniques, experiment with different materials, and create beautiful masterpieces that reflect their unique perspectives.

A qualified Art teacher with a passion to guide children discovering their own style of artistic presentation is the advantage children at Samskaara Academy have.

They have the opportunity to work on a potter’s wheel.

They progress through a course with a needle and thread and will be able to sew on a fallen button or even go on to one day become a dress and fashion designer, because children are in charge of costume designing during functions like Parents & Annual Day.

Weaver’s Craft: Embrace Tradition

The Weavers’ Craft programme has been designed to kindle, stimulate, provoke thinking, enhance confidence, understand oneself and help construct a positive value creation mindset.

The workshops, content and delivery are designed to evoke interaction, experience and knowledge-sharing and kindle introspection leading to an awareness of evolving one’s communication skills.

The need to hone communication and independent thought is especially felt since the pandemic. A long period of isolation, unavoidable interaction through and with devices, social media dependence; the scope to unlearn and relearn is vast. Unlearn the online world learning that they have experienced for so long, and relearn group behaviour in the brick and mortar classroom.A need is also felt to examine emotional equilibrium in young minds, address and redress concerns, if they so arise. Peer learning, in a safe, nurturing environment is one of the most effective ways to do this, and more.

This programme is an intensive, interactive module that exposes participants to different facets of communication, enabling them to explore topics on thinking, adding value, lateral exploration, and developing self- confidence. Some of the outcomes are:

1. Confidence in speaking
2. Participation in intra and inter-school activities
3. Understanding values, their dimensions and expressions
4. Positive Peer Relationships
5. Better Self-awareness
6. Carrying the message to the world
7. Developing a mindset of adding value to people around
8. Negotiating a forever changed world

Travelling Pages: Journey into Literature

The Travelling Pages club takes students on a literary adventure. They explore different genres, discuss thought-provoking books, engage in lively debates, and expand their horizons through the power of storytelling.

One of the greatest gifts a school can give a pupil is time. Time to be a child, to discover the world, to broaden horizons and understanding. To read, because reading is undoubtedly a lovely way to harness time for a child (and for adults).

Travelling Pages, is a unique weekly co-curricular session for grades 7 to 10, aims to do just this. By way of classwork, with an emphasis on reading and writing, the session familiarises students with the nuances of language, be it vocabulary, grammar, and usage.

In the last year or so, we have worked on a variety of topics such as:

  • Hyperbole
  • Poetry
  • Descriptive writing
  • Building imaginary scenarios
  • Note taking and building on short notes
  • Reading comprehension

Travelling Pages is handled by Dr Srividya Sivakumar, a teacher with 24 years’ experience, three-time TEDx speaker, critically-acclaimed poet, editor, and voiceover artist.

Not every child loves Art neither does everyone love Math nor any subject for that matter. There are children who avoid games and others who detest music and singing. At Samskaara we encourage the children to just try each of these co-curricular activities so that they do not miss out on a talent that is waiting to be triggered. Sure enough and time and time again we have those who once said "not for me" hooting away "may I join?"

Extra-Curricular Activities that Ignite Passion

In addition to co-curricular activities, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular clubs where students can pursue their passions beyond the classroom:

Farming Club: Get hands-on experience with sustainable farming practices.

Farming is an activity that employs all five senses and so at Samskaara we have our children digging in the dirt, watching the wonder of plant life, and enjoying the fruit of their labour. The discussions and debates around each vegetable plot are a lesson in science. It's hard work and fun rolled into one and children love it. Ultimately our children appreciate the farmers who provide us with food and grow to love the one earth we have. Math also plays a part in the process of gardening—distances, rows, spaces, amounts, timing. The garden can be considered one of the teachers at Samskaara.

Nature Club: Connect with the environment and learn about sustainability.

Ready to brave the heat, sun and dirt, our green warriors spend their time at the school terrace garden – experiencing the entire process of ‘from soil to table’ growing of various vegetables and fruits.

Cookery Club: Unleash your culinary creativity in the kitchen.

Budding chefs with a creative spirit and armed with the desire to experiment can be found whipping up something delicious here. Who can resist the smell of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies?

Science Club: Dive into the fascinating world of science experiments.

Our array of clubs cater to every interest. During break-time or lunch-time, classrooms and other spaces are full of students pursuing varied passions. Our clubs include:

Reading Club: Discover new worlds through captivating books and discussions.

Our budding journalists train to keep their eyes and ears open to everything that happens on campus. Ready to interview, report and post the latest news on the school notice boards.

Quiz Club: Challenge your knowledge and compete with fellow enthusiasts

Training minds to think faster and get clued-in on the latest happenings around the world.

Elections: Experience democracy in action by participating in student elections

The children go through the election process for student leaders in a manner that gives them first-hand knowledge of how elections are conducted in the country.

The Investiture ceremony is a disciplined and solemn occasion. It helps the chosen students get the confidence and encouragement to be good leaders of the school. The younger students are enthused to strive to be leaders in the future.

Sports: Engage in thrilling sports activities like football and basketball

Regardless of their talent or skills, we encourage our students to participate or compete in the wide range of sports activities we offer here at Samskaara. We believe that a healthy mind in a healthy body creates a balanced person, and we hope that the exposure to these activities encourage lifelong interest in physical activity for our students. Whether at a recreational level or competitive level, our students enjoy:

∙ Football
∙ Basketball
∙ Badminton
∙ Table Tennis
∙ Track and Field (Running, Jumping & Throwing Skills)
